A visual identity and interactive web platform for a traveling exhibit narrating a historic
women's rights movement in India

︎︎︎Challenge

1.

A Fragmented
Archive

2.

Divergent Audience Needs

3.

Bridging Physical
and Digital Space

SEWA, the Self-Employed Women's Association, is one of India's oldest and largest organizations of informal women workers. Its history spans decades of organizing, advocacy, and material change in the lives of its members.

The record of that history existed in scattered form: photographs, documents, and affidavits held across archives, never assembled into a single narrative.

The exhibition, Hum Sab Ek, needed to serve scholars, donors, and organizers at once, each with different depths of interest and different reasons for engaging with the material.

As Visual Design and Graphics Lead, I built the visual identity and digital platform capable of holding this history together, in the gallery and online.

︎︎︎ Opportunity

1.

Unify Identity Across Exhibition and Platform

2.

Design Tailored
Paths for Each Audience

3.

Transform Archival Material into a Cohesive Atlas

A comprehensive visual identity and graphics package would carry across the physical exhibition and the digital platform, so a visitor moving between the two would recognize one continuous project rather than two separate efforts.

Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, the platform would offer tailored digital guides built around the distinct needs of scholars, donors, and organizers, letting each group enter the material through the path most relevant to them.

Archival photographs, documents, and affidavits would be transformed into a cohesive atlas of the movement's history, giving fragmented material a shared structure and making SEWA's history legible to a broader public audience.

Typography, touchpoints, and interactivity were treated as central design decisions, refined through rounds of user testing to ensure the platform held up under real use.

︎︎︎Methods

1.

Build a Visual Identity and Graphics Package

2.

Design and Develop an Interactive Web Platform

3.

Test and Refine with Real Users

A comprehensive visual identity and graphics package was designed to hold the exhibition and digital platform to one consistent language, applied across archival image treatments, wayfinding, and interface.

An interactive web platform was designed and developed to provide in-depth access to multimedia content and contextual information, with tailored digital guides built to serve scholars, donors, and organizers as distinct audiences with distinct needs.

Close attention was paid to typography, touchpoints, and interactivity throughout, with user testing conducted at each stage to refine design elements and confirm the platform's usability before installation.

︎︎︎Outcome

1.

Cohesive Visual Identity

2.

Platform Built for
Three Audiences

3.

Successful
Public
Installation

The finished visual identity and graphics package carried consistently across the exhibition and digital platform, giving SEWA's history one coherent visual language wherever a visitor encountered it.

The interactive web platform now provides in-depth access to the movement's multimedia archive, with digital guides tailored to the distinct needs of scholars, donors, and organizers.

The exhibition was successfully installed at Harvard University, opening SEWA's history to a broader public audience and facilitating discussion of the movement's legacy beyond the communities that lived it.
